The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) (8) Science and Engineering Practices (SEP's) are fundamentals in every SLM Module!

NGSS SEP 1 - Developing and using models
NGSS SEP 2 - Asking questions (for Science) and defining problems (for Engineering)
NGSS SEP 3 - Constructing explanations (for Science) and designing solutions (for Engineering)
NGSS SEP 4 - Analyzing and interpreting data
NGSS SEP 5 - Using mathematical and computational thinking
NGSS SEP 6 - Plan and carry out investigations
NGSS SEP 7 - Engaging in argument from evidence
NGSS SEP 8 - Obtaining and evaluating information
When NGSS was adopted in 2014, many of the Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCIs) already aligned precisely with SLM content. This is because the curriculum content has remained roughly the same and in line with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Earth Systems Science and SLM modules were iteratively improved over the years in real practice. Thereby SLM integrated mathematical modeling on a spreadsheet into all STEM subject areas in a way that has been emphasized by many of the specific performance expectations outlined in NGSS.
The Spreadsheet Lab Manual was written starting in 2005 and the standards have become more widely enacted and the types of activities that are called for have become closer to resembling the instructional content of The Spreadsheet Lab Manual. It is no secret with the way the world his headed with data analysis and management that the Excel is here to stay and that data analysis and numeric analysis are important worker and citizen skills in the future. Apply math to science on a spreadsheet and reinforce skills in all areas simultaneously.
